What I Love and Hate about Instagram

by Daniela in Daily Life April 26, 2015July 29, 2015 6

I was a late-comer to Facebook. It was only because almost all of my friends started posting their photos on the site rather than sending them through email that I begrudgingly signed on or in, as the case may be. Of course I’m as happy as a pig in mud now, having re-connected with friends…

Does Friendship Automatically Bring Forgiveness?

by Daniela in Friendship April 3, 2015April 29, 2015 8

I have written before about friendship and how lucky I am to still have friends from a hundred years ago when we were pig-tailed girls in school but friendship can be a delicate construct. I started thinking about this after reading a recent post by a friend about how friendships are maintained and our expectations of…

Eulogy for a Mother.

by Daniela in Love and Other Bruises March 27, 2015April 30, 2015 4

Yesterday I went to a funeral.  A friend’s mother.  She was 88, frail, with dementia.  It’s a bitter pill we have to swallow, aging, but, as the cliché goes, it’s better than the alternative – although perhaps less so towards the end.  As is the way now, there was a slide show of her life. …

Roses are Red, Poetry’s Cool, It’s Not Just Stuff You Did at School.

by Daniela in Love and Other Bruises February 9, 2015June 17, 2015 0

As we hurtle headlong towards St Valentine’s Day – named after the Patron Saint of florists and Hallmark cards – I was struck by a particular radio ad urging men to spend vast amounts of money on something (obviously not a very effective ad) because “flowers are boring and poetry is lame“.  Poetry is…

Back to the Future: Me, 1972

by Daniela in Whatever January 30, 2015June 17, 2015 7

Oh—-my—-God.  I’m in the process of a MASSIVE clean-out of BIBLICAL proportions and I came across one of my English books from 1972.  So…. I’m 14 years old – the same age as my son is now – and have written a poem.  It’s a corker.  You will understand why when you read it but…

Sometimes the Universe Knows Better.

by Daniela in Love and Other Bruises November 15, 2014June 17, 2015 3

Well, as one alcoholic said to the other, “It’s been a long time between drinks.” Since my last post in August, I’ve had lots of ideas and done absolutely nothing about them so I thought I had better redeem myself and get scribbling … so before I get to the point of the whole exercise,…

Parenting is not One-Size-Fits-All

by Daniela in Parenting August 1, 2014April 30, 2015 3

Hilary Clinton used it in a book title and every time someone brings it up, everyone else (and by “everyone else” I’m talking almost exclusively about women because men would never be having this type of conversation) becomes misty-eyed, nods their head wistfully, gazes into the distance and agrees whole-heartedly about how wonderful and ideal…

Who and why..

daniela_profile

In my younger years I would write constantly - my diary, poetry, letters. I was in love with words. Then as life took hold I just stopped...maybe not stopped so much as allowed to slip away.
A blog was the universe's way of re-igniting my passion. I've done a lot of living in 56 years and I'm just as opinionated now as I was when I was younger but at least now those opinions have some experience behind them.
Thanks for visiting.
